Overview:

As an IT technician at Michigan State University (MSU), I took on the responsibility of creating and managing a private wiki page for the technicians within the Residential and Hospitality Services division. This wiki served as a comprehensive repository of information, documenting successful processes, and solutions for IT problems. Leveraging my skills in wiki-creation, acquired from my childhood experience with DC Comics wiki, I wrote approximately 50+ articles that covered topics such as passwords for special devices and programs, documents for new updates, and methods for solving common issues. The wiki was utilized for knowledge sharing, training new team members, and improving troubleshooting efficiency. This portfolio piece showcases my work in creating and maintaining the MSU IT knowledge-base wiki, including the tools used, problem solved, and the impact of my contributions.

Methodology:

  • Wiki platform: I utilized a wiki platform to create and manage the knowledge-base, allowing for easy organization, editing, and collaboration among team members.

  • Content creation tools: I used text editors or word processors to write and format the articles for the wiki, ensuring that the content was clear, concise, and easy to understand.

Results:

  • Lack of documentation: The IT department at MSU needed a centralized repository of information to document successful processes and solutions for IT problems.

  • Knowledge sharing and training: The wiki served as a resource for knowledge sharing among team members and training new members, enabling them to quickly learn and understand provisioning processes and updates.

  • Efficient troubleshooting: The wiki provided easy access to passwords, documents, and methods for solving common issues, improving overall efficiency in resolving IT problems.

Conclusion:

  • Created and managed a private wiki page for the technicians at MSU as part of my role in the university's IT department supporting the Residential and Hospitality Services division.

  • Wrote approximately 50+ articles for the wiki, covering topics such as passwords for special devices and programs, documents for new updates, and methods for solving common issues.

  • Utilized my skills in wiki-creation, acquired from my experience with DC Comics wiki as a child, to organize and structure the content in a user-friendly manner.
